일라, ‘씨퀄’ 원단 라인업 확대

친환경 소재 전문기업 일라는 바다에서 버려지는 플라스틱을 재활용해서 만든 원단 씨퀄원단-일마레를 출시한다.

‘씨퀄’은 해양쓰레기 문제 해결을 위해 폐플라스틱을 활용해 만들어진 리사이클 폴리에스터 섬유 제품이다. 원사는 주로 석유화학 원료나 재생원료를 사용했지만 씨퀄원 사는 아예 리사이클를 원재료로 해서 만들었다. 플라스틱을 세척-분쇄-용융 과정을 거쳐 칩 형태로 만들고 이를 실로 뽑아낸 뒤 원단으로 만든다. 이렇게 하면 생산과정에서 이산화탄소 배출량이 크게 줄어든다.

특히 일라는 친환경적인 원단 생산에 적극적이다. 씨퀄 원단 뿐만아니라 플라스틱을 재활용한 리사이클 소재에 대해 글로벌 인증기관인 ‘컨트롤 유니온’으로부터 국제 재생표준인증인 ‘GRS(Global Recycled Standard)’를 획득했다고 밝혔다. 지난해 획득한 유럽연합 기준의 오코텍스에 이어 연달아 공신력있는 국제 친환경 인증을 받은 것이다.

일라 관계자는 “친환경 소재 비중을 계속 늘려갈 방침”이라며 “현재로선 가격경쟁력이 떨어지지만 소비자 인식이 개선되면 충분히 승산이 있다”고 말했다.

ILLA, a company specializing in eco-friendly materials, is releasing SEAQUAL fabric -ILMARE, a fabric made by recycling plastics discarded in the sea.

SEAQUAL is a recycled polyester fiber product made by using waste plastics to solve the marine waste problem. The yarn mainly used petrochemical raw materials or recycled materials, but the SEAQUAL yarn was made using recycled materials. The plastic is transformed into a chip after a washing-crushing-melt process, and the plastic is extracted into a fabric. This will significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions during the production process.

In particular, ILLA is active in producing eco-friendly fabrics. It announced that it has obtained Global Recycled Standard (GRS) from Control Union, a global certification agency, for recycling materials that use plastic as well as SEAQUAL fabrics. Following OEKO-TEX based on European Union standards acquired last year, it has obtained international eco-friendly certification in succession An ILLA official said, “We plan to continue to increase the proportion of eco-friendly materials,” adding, “At the moment, price competitiveness is low, but if consumer awareness improves, there is a sufficient chance of winning.”
